Autumn En Plein Air Collage Painting

This is a workshop about making marks.  Marks from paint, found objects, garbage, printing, and whatever playful idea pops into your head.  There are only a few boundaries, and they apply to science, which may be ignored if so desired. 

Tools and supplies to bring:

  • Comfortable walking shoes – bag for collecting – gloves for prickly found items

  • Notebook & or Sketchbook

  • Paints – oil, oil paint sticks, acrylic, watercolor

  • Pencils

  • Charcoal 

  • Fabric (we will need to gesso for oil paints) or paper(heavier paper is encouraged -  mixed media, arches oil, or heavy rag) to work on

  • Any items you have you might want to incorporate 

  • Brushes

  • Sponges 

  • Tissue 

  • Paper towels

  • Cleaning supplies

  • If working with wire:

    • Soft copper wire (28 to 20 gauge) pink color can be turned brown or greenish

    • Soft annealed wire (28 to 20 gauge) black color

    • Soft brass wire (28 to 20 gauge) yellow color can be turned brown or greenish

    • Needle nose pliers

    • Round needle nose pliers

    • Wire cutters

*Highly encourage to have a box to transport finished or almost finished work home.

Supplied for you (feel free to bring your own):

  • Sewing tools 

  • threads

  • Some upcycled items

  • scissors

  • encaustics

  • heat guns

What a day will look like:

  • The start of a day will be with a gentle wander around Sagamore. Absorbing ideas, gathering anything you find that piques your interest and or finding a happy spot sitting sketching, noting or just looking.  

  • We will then return to the Hen House and start exploring the joy of mark making.  I will have a few examples for exploration and show a few ways to get started.  

  • Lunch break

  • Optional wander and finding mission. 

  • Back to the Hen House for more creating.

  • 4pm– show and tell critique

Terri is a mid-career artist, who attained a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Ohio Wesleyan University. She focuses on oil painting but enjoys working on 3-dimensional pieces from time to time.

Terri has had her work featured in over 40 shows; solo, member, as well as juried. In addition to the many juried shows Terri has gotten into, she has achieved awards including several best in show.

Born in Maryland, she grew up in the countryside of New Jersey. While she has had opportunities to live abroad, in cities and in suburbs, Terri is at her happiest in the country. She lives among the tall trees at her home and studio in Hunterdon County, New Jersey.
