Grands Camp: We're not just Great, We're Grand!

Thank you for your interest in Grands Camp at Great Camp Sagamore.  Great Camp Sagamore is one of the first locations ever to establish grandparent/grandchild programs, and ur nationally famous Grandparents’ and Grandchildren’s Camp has been featured on the Today Show, CBS Evening News, and in countless publications.  Grandparents and grandchildren participate in a wide range of activities designed to build vital connections between people and nature.  Expect music, canoeing, swimming, hiking, natural crafts, singing, campfires, stars, balsam-scented air and lots of laughter. 

The experienced staff of Great Camp Sagamore lead all of our Grands Camps, regardless of  whether you register through Exploritas (with specific grandchild age range)

or you register for SagaGrands (with varied grandchild age range).

SagaGrands Camp

$697 per adult & $677 per child

In order to register for the following SagaGrands Camp,

you must register directly through Sagamore.

A 25% non-refundable, non-transferable deposit per camper is required in order to register.  The balance for this week is due in full on March 1^st, 2010.  Grandparents may bring more than one child per adult, so long as they feel they can manage the added responsibility. 

 

~Program Descriptions~

 

Intergenerational Exploritas - Canoe-Building and Water Skills (Children 11-14): Designed for Hostelers and their grandchildren aged 12-14, this program features experienced  boat building instructors who’ll provide hands-on training in restoring and maintaining a classic wooden canvas canoe, learning paddling techniques and water safety. For an additional fee, you’ll also have an opportunity to hand-carve a traditional paddle to take home! Evenings will be filled with presentations on boating history in the Adirondacks, along with night hikes and campfires.

 

Intergenerational Exploritas - Great Grands Camp: Sagamore's Intergenerational Program (Children 6-9 or 8-11):

 is designed to bring families together in a unique and beautiful natural setting. Morning sessions include nature hikes and other outdoor activities. Afternoons are spent making crafts or making music. Each intergenerational program is tailored to the skill levels of specific age groups. See course note for specific ages. Come and see why Time Magazine has considered Sagamore's to be "the granddaddy of intergenerational programs.  For Grandparents with Grandchildren ages 6-9 or 8-11 depending on the date of program.

 

Intergenerational Exploritas - “Daring And Dangerous” Camps (Children 8-11): “In this age of video games and cell phones, there must be a place for knots, tree houses and stories of incredible courage,” so begins Hal Iggulden’s popular “Dangerous Book for Boys.” Come to an Adirondack Great Camp on beautiful Sagamore Lake to bring to life this national bestseller and its companion book, “The Daring Book for Girls.” Share old-fashioned, adventure pastimes as you skip rocks, transmit secret codes and ciphers, resurrect the art of making paper crafts and play croquet. Learn flat water canoeing, basic first aid, how to build a fire, and then spend a night camping under the stars. The Sagamore Institute offers the perfect playground, where boys and girls of all ages can be daring and even get in a little bit of trouble.

 

Intergenerational Exploritas - Grandmothers and Granddaughters: Outdoor Adventures, Campfires and Creativity (Granddaughters 6-12):  This special course will focus on the relationship between grandmothers and their granddaughters, with activities designed to foster the special bond between these two generations. Through music, a variety of traditional women's hand-crafts and special outdoor activities, participants will have the opportunity to learn how Adirondack traditions have passed from generation to generation. 

 

SagaGrands - A Great Camp For Grands Camp (Children 6-14): With activities designed for grandparents with grandchildren of varied ages between 6-14 to do together, outings include hiking, canoeing, and arts & crafts.  Grandparents have an opportunity to rest and relax during the late afternoon, while children attend ‘kids club’ with Sagamore staff.  Evening activities include a square dance, ‘talent’ night, and campfires.  Expect nature discovery, crafts, music, campfires, stars, fresh air and lots of laughter. Many of our “grands” return annually to build priceless memories. Grandparents can bring one or more grandchildren of any age to this session.  This is our 20th anniversary.

 

Intergenerational Exploritas - Grandfathers and Grandsons: Explore Scouting in the Adirondacks (Grandsons 6-12): Trail blazing and campfire building -- forgotten arts or important skills? Would your grandson be able to build a warming fire or create a shelter in the woods? For 100 years, the Boy Scout Handbook has been teaching these skills and more to young adventurers -- now is the perfect time to share this knowledge with your grandson. With the historic Sagamore, the 1897 Vanderbilt camp as your setting, share in wonders of nature as you canoe along a pristine Adirondack lake, rely on a compass to blaze and follow trails, and pitch tents and tarps to make camp. Get a hands-on lesson in whittling and knot tying before learning the basics in first aid techniques, or settling down for a ghost story in front of an evening campfire.
