Grands Camp: We're not just Great, We're Grand!

Intergenerational Road Scholar - Canoe-Building and Water Skills (Children 11-14):
Designed for Road Scholars and their grandchildren aged 12-14, this program features experienced  boat building instructors who’ll provide hands-on training in restoring and maintaining a classic wooden canvas canoe, learning paddling techniques and water safety. For an additional fee, you’ll also have an opportunity to hand-carve a traditional paddle to take home! Evenings will be filled with presentations on boating history in the Adirondacks, along with night hikes and campfires.

 
Intergenerational Road Scholar - Great Grands Camp: Sagamore's Intergenerational Program (Children 6-9 or 8-11):
Designed to bring families together in a unique and beautiful natural setting. Morning sessions include nature hikes and other outdoor activities. Afternoons are spent making crafts or making music. Each intergenerational program is tailored to the skill levels of specific age groups. See course note for specific ages. Come and see why Time Magazine has considered Sagamore's to be "the granddaddy of intergenerational programs.  For Grandparents with Grandchildren ages 6-9 or 8-11 depending on the date of program.

 
Intergenerational Road Scholar - Adirondack Camping Adventures (Children 8-11):
Relive your childhood as you explore the lakes, forests and mountains of the Adirondacks with your own grandchild. Learn first-aid, canoeing, camping and fire-making skills. Identify the local fauna, bond with the natural world and with each other. Everyone roll up your sleeves and have some old-fashioned fun and games!

 
Intergenerational Road Scholar - Grandmothers and Granddaughters: Outdoor Adventures, Campfires and Creativity (Granddaughters 6-12): 
This special course will focus on the relationship between grandmothers and their granddaughters, with activities designed to foster the special bond between these two generations. Through music, a variety of traditional women's hand-crafts and special outdoor activities, participants will have the opportunity to learn how Adirondack traditions have passed from generation to generation.

Intergenerational Road Scholar - Grandfathers and Grandsons: Explore Scouting in the Adirondacks (Grandsons 6-12):
Trail blazing and campfire building -- forgotten arts or important skills? Would your grandson be able to build a warming fire or create a shelter in the woods? For 100 years, the Boy Scout Handbook has been teaching these skills and more to young adventurers -- now is the perfect time to share this knowledge with your grandson. With the historic Sagamore, the 1897 Vanderbilt camp as your setting, share in wonders of nature as you canoe along a pristine Adirondack lake, rely on a compass to blaze and follow trails, and pitch tents and tarps to make camp. Get a hands-on lesson in whittling and knot tying before learning the basics in first aid techniques, or settling down for a ghost story in front of an evening campfire.

 
SagaGrands - A Great Camp For Grands Camp (Children 6-14):
With activities designed for grandparents with grandchildren of varied ages between 6-14 to do together, outings include hiking, canoeing, and arts & crafts.  Grandparents have an opportunity to rest and relax during the late afternoon, while children attend ‘kids club’ with Sagamore staff.  Evening activities include a square dance, ‘talent’ night, and campfires.  Expect nature discovery, crafts, music, campfires, stars, fresh air and lots of laughter. Many of our “grands” return annually to build priceless memories. Grandparents can bring one or more grandchildren of any age to this session.  This is our 22nd anniversary.

All of our "grands camp" experiences are designed to bring family generations together in a safe and beautiful natural setting.  Our programs provide a wide variety of activities designed to embrace the connections between grandparents and grandchildren while fostering a respect for our natural environment and this National Historic Landmark.  Come see why Time Magazine has considered Sagamore’s to be “the granddaddy of intergenerational programs.”  Many of our “grands” return annually, which is why early registration is recommended.
