Benefit for Historic Preservation
August 7, 2010
The first Saturday of August is Great Camp Sagamore’s annual Benefit for Historic Preservation. Ticket price is per person and includes the silent auction followed by a sumptuous dinner. Music is also a part of the festive evening.
About 200 guests attend this important fund raiser annually. Most recently, proceeds have helped re-roof the Chalet and Alfred’s Cottage. The next projects earmarked by the trustees are the foundation repairs to the Playhouse and work on the piers at the Main Lodge.
Business sponsorships are available and include recognition on the invitation, in press releases, and on the program. Platinum, gold, and silver sponsorships are available.
The committee is headed by Trustee President Linda Cohen. Members include Sarah Cohen, Mary Sanders Shartle, Lezlie Dana, Gail Doering, Diane Lux, Janet Griffith, Janice Luck O’Connor, Peggy O’Shea, Frances Parent, Margie Burstein, Jamie Strader, Shannon Reber and Caroline Lawrence. Plans this year include inviting guests early to participate in sports and games like croquet, bowling, guide boat races, Scrabble, bocce, jigsaw puzzles, and cards. All these were hosted by the first Mrs. Vanderbilt for her guests at Sagamore and are amusingly depicted in a cartoon drawing of “wrists” in action. This drawing is part of the permanent Vanderbilt exhibit at Great Camp Sagamore.
Honorary chair of the 2009 Benefit for Historic Preservation was Mrs. Alfred G. Vanderbilt, III.
Donate today and watch for your invitation to arrive in the mail for 2010.
