Great Camp Sagamore’s National Historic Landmark plaque.A bird’s eye view of Sagamore’s guest complex.Dating from 1897 the Main Lodge at Sagamore is William West Durant's greatest architectural achievement. He actually lived in it until 1901 when he sold Sagamore to Alfred Vanderbilt, the wealthiest young man in America.The fireplace in the Main Lodge is a favorite gathering spot for guests.
George's Cottage.  Right half is original and was used as the laundry for the early camp. It later served as Gloria's nursery and in 1928 was expanded as a cottage for George Vanderbilt, Alfred & Margaret's second son.Gloria’s Cottage hugs Sagamore Lake.Dining Alcove. The dining room was built in stages. Alfred doubled Durant's original length and added a 2nd fireplace. Margaret added the bay window and a 3rd fireplace in 1924 to accommodate her many dinner guests.William Coulter designed and built the Playhouse.  Alfred and Margaret were avid hunters, so the room was adorned with various animal 'trophies'.  Featured in Life Magazine.
The Bowling Alley has withstood warping and buckling for over 90 years and is still used today.  With a massive stone fireplace installed and heavy canvas curtains, the alley is semi-outdoors.Great Camp Sagamore is located on Sagamore Lake in the 'forever wild' lands of the Forest Preserve in the Adirondack Mountains.Autumn graces Sagamore Lake.The Vanderbilt exhibit is the most popular stop on the tours; open to the public in summer and fall.
