An endowment for this special place…
Never assume that great camp sagamore will always be here...
Watching the early morning mist
rise off the lake, listening to the call of the loons, hearing the laughter of children at croquet. Participating in outdoor and crafts programs or learning to square dance for the first time during Grands’ Camp. Finding solace, support and strength through the Arts and Healing Programs for women with chronic illnesses. Observing the dedication to preserving traditional Adirondack crafts. Touring and experiencing life at the most famous Great Camp from the Gilded Age. Thousands of visitors have taken away such memories since the educational, not-for-profit Sagamore Institute of the Adirondacks was founded.

Sagamore’s Board of Trustees is committed to ensuring that thousands more will have the opportunity to create their own memories of Great Camp Sagamore. But we need your help. Sagamore receives no local, state or federal funding. Instead, our modest budget relies on revenue and support from individuals. Visitors, guests, volunteers, trustees, members, supporters and staff all contribute. It just isn’t enough.
The Board has therefore initiated a 5-year Endowment Campaign. We have applied for a National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) Challenge Grant. The Board’s goal, with your help, is to at least double the size of the current endowment. Over the past two decades individual supporters have helped Sagamore successfully match significant historic preservation grants, including the esteemed Save America’s Treasures award. We are confident that we can do so again and secure a sounder financial footing for Sagamore.
Our mission and vision depend upon our ability to grow the permanent endowment. We hope that you will consider making a pledge to the endowment. It can be payable over a 5-year period. If we are successful in our grant application, your tax-deductible gift will also be matched one for three by the NEH. The income generated is crucial for Adirondack Area Studies, which currently serves as a central theme to our mission-based programs and tours. Historic preservation is ongoing and costly, especially in the harsh winters of the Adirondacks. Interpreting and preserving the 27 buildings of this National Historic Landmark must always be a priority.
